Internet not working on Win98

By TechNews ·
Hello,
We have internet in the office through a Linksys router. All W/S are win2k except one that is win98.

For some last week win98 user could not browse the internet.
Rebooting the router and modem did not fix the problem.
I noticed that going inside DNS configuration and changing the order of DNS servers, then rebooting works. But after a while the problem appears again. As if a connection with the DNS is not being saved on win98.

Please help.
Thank you

reinstall or update the driver of the network and make sure he can ping the router, the dns servers and the other pc's.
(and make sure the ipconfiguration is valid)

geez. those win98 machines are really getting annoying to support, aren't they? bet this is a laptop...when it falls off the internet, what can you ping from it? can you ping your DNS entries? when you say changing the DNS configuration then rebooting fixes it, you mean changing it in the win98 box, right? does winipcfg /release /renew have any effect? is this static ip? do you think setting up a static ip address (with static *gateway* and DNS addresses) might help? do you think setting up win98 as dhcp client might help? can you try another NIC in the win98 machine? Has anything changed recently on Win98 machine (Windows updates...driver changes...)

Thanks a lot for the help.

I update the LAN driver and changed from static IP to DHCP. All is working fine now.
