Internet on LAN with Win2k Server

By adrehman ·
HI all,

This is Adrehman "I AM NOT A NETWORKER I AM IN SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT"

Fisr let me tell you about my scenario.

I have installed Windwos 2000 server (stand alone) with IP Address 192.168.0.1 and subnet is 255.255.255.0 and than I madea dialup internet connection. After that I have enabled this connection for sharing. Also I have configured DHCP server on this machine which is working fine.

And than restart another windows 2000 machine with DHCP IP options that server assignedthe correct ip address to the client.

I try to access internet from client machine (server weeks up) connect the internet automatically. After all I have accessed that internet successfully from client?s machine.

Stop 2 . I need this same machine as my domain controller so I converted this windows 2000 as ?Active Directory Server? after all setup I try that same accessing internet from clients machine with domain administrators account that was net working.

i am confused the same thing was working with stand alone server but not working with domain controller.

Note : all what I want to do is ?I just want to enabled internet on my local network with the some machine which is my domain controler?

Can I do that Or what can do?

DNS.
proxy, ad, and dial up uses DNS. if they are different on any one, something won't work. they all need to be the same. but since your dial up will give you machine a different DNS than what it's upposed to have then your proxy ain't gonna work. you need some kind of 3rd party software for that

It's been my experience you can't have ICS on a domain controller, you get conflicts w/ DNS and DHCP.

From MS http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q250/6/03.ASP?LN=EN-US&SD=gn&FR=0&qry=ics&rnk=10&src=DHCS_MSPSS_gn_SRCH&SPR=WIN2000

"When you have a server running Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) or Dynamic DNS (DDNS), the Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service may not function correctly or may cause some services to stop working. In addition, various error messagesmay be displayed"

"To resolve this issue, do not run the ICS service on a DHCP or DDNS server. NAT (which is installed using routing protocols in the Routing and Remote Access Service (RRAS) snap-in) works correctly if you do not enable the DNS Proxy service or the DHCP allocator."

You can also try going to services and stop DNS
