Internet Options

By capitalusa ·
I recently went into my Control Panel to open Internet Options. Nothing opened, it seems I have the icon but nothing else. I am using Windows XP 2pack.
I can't figure out where or how it disappeared

Just Checking...

I think I'm following....

You open Control Panel. You see the icon for Internet Options. Nothing happens when you double click it.

If that is the case, here's something you can try:
(this is assuming you have IE6 or IE7 working properly and can accesss Internet Options from the Tools menu inside the browser)

Go to another computer that is also running XP.
Using a floppy diskette, a USB memory stick or a recordable CD, copy the file named 'inetcpl.cpl' from their C:\Windows\System32 directory.
Copy that file into your C:\Windows\System32 directory over-writing the copy that may currently be there. (you will need to have 'Show Hidden Files and Folders' selected in Folder Options in order to see this file)
Now try to open Internet Options inside Control Panel.

If you do not see the Internet Options icon, download TweakUI for XP (http://tinyurl.com/b4246). Amoung it's many capabilities, it has a convenient tool for easily activating and deactivating Control Panel options.
<word to the wise> be careful making changes using TweakUI if you are unsure what you are doing and always have XP System Restore turned on and a valid system backup.

Please let me know if this helps.

Have you tried....

by CaptBilly1Eye In reply to Internet Options

to open Internet Options from the Tools menu when Internet Explorer is open?

- If you are able to open it that way but not in Control Panel, then follow the steps found in my previous post entitled 'Just Checking.'
- If you are unable to open it even from within Internet Explorer, then your issue could very well be related to Spyware, Adware, Malware or a Trojan Virus. Please let me know if that is the case and I'll provide you with steps and recommendations for repairing that.

Try these two options

by IC-IT In reply to Internet Options

If you just recently installed the IE7 update then;
copy ieproxy.dll from the Program Files\Internet Explorer folder to the Windows\System32 folder.

Then either open a cmd prompt or use the Start ? Run and type -

Regsvr32 ieproxy.dll

For other fixes try here;
