Internet Security

By CDSTurbo ·
I am working on a small peer to peer network (4 computers with Windows 2000 Pro). The network has been running fine, but when I installed Norton Internet Security or McAfee Internet Suite, the network breaks down and there is no communication. They can all still get on the internet, but I have no network. When I uninstall the internet security, the network returns without any adjustments at all.
It seems I can have a network or I can have security, but not both.
Any suggestions?

you need to setup your internal network as a trusted network in norton or mcafee. see Help.

Those programs are personal firewall programs. They are supposed to make your computer "Not be seen" by other computers. you will need to configure the software to allow other computers on the same subnet to have access (or at least the other computernames, or workgroup).

Sorry, but this told me what I already knew. I needed to know where to research or what to do.

A firewall automatically blocks ports 135 and 139 for netbios sessions. You need to set your firewall to let these ports make outgoing communication. Also putting your local network in trusted area will do the job.
