linksys and many other mfr make a product that is a hub/router so that more than 1 pc can share a DSL line.

unless the DSL people give you more than one ip address or unless you only use 1 PC at a time on the network, you will have to get a proxyserver or router.

If you are trying to get both computers using the dsl connection at the same time, then you need a proxy server or a router.

The proxy server doesn't have to be a third computer. You can install it on the computer that has the dsl connection. Iknow of three programs you can use for this. Internet Connection Sharing is built into Windows 98 Second Edition. SyGate and Wingate are two others.

If you have an ethernet modem that plugs into a network card on the PC, then you can get a router/switch that will do the same thing with a little less work.

You should use a hub/router for this job. You can get them now for as little as $150 which makes it the perfect way to connect to the internet for more than one computer.
You dont need more than one IP address to be able to connect to the internet with a hub router since the hub router will act as a NAT (Netwrok Address Translator). The hub/router can also be configured as DHCP server which makes it even easier than anything else.
Internet Connection Sharing that comes with win98 SE and ME and 2k will also work but in my experience I had a lot of problems with it that I didnt have with the hub/router.

You can do this using Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) included with Windows 98 SE and Windows ME. Select Add/Remove Programs from the Control Panel, choose the Windows Setup tab, select Internet Tools and click the Details button. Check ICS and follow the instructions provided by the ICS wizard. You can visit http://www.practicallynetworked.com/ for more information on ICS plus many other networking and configuration resources.
