Internet Slows or Stops The longer I sta

By jdpbe ·
When connected to IE5. After using for an hour or so I seem to get slower downloads and slower connections. I am using an internal PCtel HSP 56k modem. Any thoughts?

I don't disagree with the earlier answer but it could also be that your modem starts off fine but a noisy connection causes it to negotiate a slower and slower rate as time goes on.

There are many utilities you can download that show you the modem speed and it might be interesting to try one to see if it appears to be a modem speed issue or a storage issue.

I ran into this problem too a while back. First, I was using freexcite. My IE will go slower as time goes on. The same computer, if switch to another ISP, it turned out fine.

Might want to check with your ISP. They might be doing things behind your back.

Clean off temp folder would help also.

Hope this help!

Depending on the size of your hard drive and the amount of free space that you have available, you may want to delete your Temporary Internet Files, and clear your History. Over time both of these can take up substantial hard drive space if you let them, causing your not just connection to slow down but also your system.

Also, depending on the time that you are doing your browsing and downloading, for instance, 6PM - 10PM, you will inevitably be running into slower downloads, because this isthe prime time for all internet users. This is when the majority of all internet users log on, and phone lines see a lot of traffic, resulting in slower speeds.

You might call your ISP. I've had bad service in the past. I've switched from AOL, toBellsouth, to USIT.

You might call the phone company. I did. What I found out was that my line was over twenty years old and that I was going to get the same connection with a 56k modem as I was with a 33.6. If thats the case, go with a free internet provider. If your going to get lousy connection rates, don't pay for it. I don't.
