Many routers have bandwidth control, but what is the router?

Is it just an AP or an actual router? If it is a router then why aren't you behind it too?

when this is the line-up adslmodem-pc-router-laptop , u should goto your network card settings and make a network bridge by selecting the incoming adsl connexion and your network card and rightclick.
Now set the address of the bridge as a gateway in your laptop and your good to go.

p.s. maybe you have to enable share internet on bridge.

CHEERS !!!! and gimme some points if it works ;P

The simple answer to your question is no you can not do that with off the shelve equipment for home use. A router
(http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=router)
or as you say rooters (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=rooter) that can do this is at the business level and will be pretty expensive. On a serious note though, here is a solution that may be able to help you out. Check out this link

Hope I helped you out
