Internet Usage Monitoring Software

By Shanghai Sam ·
I have been tasked with assessing alternatives to our current web monitoring software which is used to review proxy log files. The idea is to identify the heaviest users of the web within our organisation - and so we can ascertain whether this usageis appropriate or not as far as possible. Not easy I know!
One problem we have with our current software is a duplication of measurement. This occurs where image files are being downloaded from external sites, e.g. banner advertising, at the same time as other web pages which users have actively browsed. The inaccuracy in the user summary times results because our software calculates the total user time from the sum of the time spent on each individual site. As it calculates a separate figure for each site, the download of external banner adverts can result in duplication.

It would be useful if there is anything out there that won't duplicate the count; and, also separately can record a pattern of usage rather than just clocking up say a total of 5hours activity against an employee id for a given day.

Grateful for any suggestions of good web-use monitoring/reporting products as I'm not a great expert in this area!
