Intranet Email

I need to setup Outlook Express as an Intranet Email application, similar to mail under Win 3.11. The peer to peer network is based on Win 98 SE.

Outlook Express is a POP3 mail client. So you will need a mail server for your Outlook Express clients to connect to. (Mail under win 3.11 allowed you to create a file-based post office, which could be shared in a workgroup. That approach doesn't work with newer mail products like Outlook Express.) Many people use Exchange server, because it's part of MS Back Office, is very easy to install and has lots of nice features. Otherwise, you need some kind of 3rd party POP3 mail server. Of course, ifyou have MS Office 2000, it includes Outlook 2000, which when used with Exchange gives you lots of capabilities you won't get with Outlook Express (group scheduling, contact management, etc).
