Intranet mail

By axes12 ·
I have a branch and a HQ. I wish to setup 2 Linux boxes, 1 at each site running Sendmail as the Intranet mail server.

I have already installed the Linux O/S.
What the next step do I have to do ?

Thanks for any help...in advance

You need to have both machines registered in the Internet DNS with legitimate names and IP numbers. Then set up user accounts, and send mail. That should be it. Sendmail should take care of everything if it can find the destination routing info fromDNS.

you didnt specified if you want this 2 servers to be connected through the internet, if so, then you must do the answer mentioned above. If not and you want every server to be on your intranet ONLY then install sendmail and configure it. Add those accounts then try if its working.

For that you need to have ip address and hostname registered with Internet DNS. Then create user accounts. Then use sendmail to send mail.If will be able to send mail in the intranet & internet .
Then for receiving mail you can use IMAP.

But for working of the above solution you should
have user account in the linux systems. There is another solution Cyrus-IMAP . If u use this then u don't have to create linux users.Just configure Cyrus-IMAP and apply the commands you will have a user, who is not linux user. Configuration of Cyrus-IMAP will allow sendmail to mail this user.

Got it.
