    invalid handle (printer) NT TSC

    Locked

    by krantz ·

Two pc’s (Win95, Win98SE) running NT terminal server client had shared printers that were upgraded. The old printers were deleted, the new ones were added and shared. Both printers work properly across the network, including the NT servers, however neither workstation can print through the Terminal Server Client session, receiving an error ‘page failed to print. The handle is invalid’. I have removed the printers, all sharings & mapped ports, and reinstalled, only to receive the same error. Anysuggestions please?

Win TS uses “Virtual Printers”: you should see printers with the string “Session n” appended to their name when you look (from a client) at the printer list you get from Start|Settings|Printers. Try this: do you still see your old printers ? If so, delete them while in the TS session. Also, try printing from a program that allows you to define which printer to print from, and explicitly select a “living” virtual printer, and not one of the “dead” ones, which may still be the default, somehow.

The new printers are Epson Stylus 740 & 770 which apparently has defective printer drivers which do not allow the Client to print through Terminal Server Client. The printers network properly using the Epson Stylus Color ESC/P 2 drivers, which produced better print quality than their original drivers.

Thanks for the good suggestion, although it did not fix the problem. There were no strings “Session n” appended to the printer names, so maybe this could be the cause of the problem?? It would not let me add or delete printers from the Terminal Session Client session, only from the NT Server.
