Invalid System Disk

By dmiller ·
I have a Toshiba Satelite Laptop. I went to turn it on and it gave me an invalid system disc error. I took the cd that was in the cdrom out and it gave me the error again. I have tried to boot to a floppy to no avail. Please help.

Invalid System Disk

The invalid system disk referred to may be the hard drive. Check the boot sequence in the bios and also check to see which drives are enabled as bootable. If the hard drive is the only drive set as bootable and data is altered or corrupted, your Toshiba won't boot. We had the same problem with a Satelite at work and we sent it out for repair. The charge was only $80 and no formatting was required which leads me to believe that either the bios was reset or the settings in the bios were simplymanipulated to bring it back to life. Also, be sure that the laptop hard drive still has a good connection. They do get loose sometimes.

We used to use Toshibas here at work until we had the same problem on a grand scale. Toshiba was mentioned in a lawsuit because they were producing machines with known hard drive problems. You should be able to go to the Toshiba website, enter theserial number of the machine and find out if it was one of the machines with a faulty drive.

To finish my thought, your hard drive might be bad and you may have to have it replaced. That has been my experience with them.
