Invisible Typing and Scrolling on IE 6 Win98SE

By debbiehu ·
I have a Win98SE PC with IE 6. Lately, every time I'm on a web site with areas to type a search or selection, I cannot see my typing. It is a 2-3 second delay before my text will appear. In addition, when I scroll down or up it takes 20-30 seconds. I reinstalled IE6 and the service packs with no luck. What can I do?

Clear your internet cache and history information.

The files have just gotten too big for your system.

Then, clean out the C:\Windows\Temp folder.

Boot into safe mode, then run scandisk and defrag.

Finally, check for an updated video driver.

Un-install IE 6 and drop back to IE 5.5 SP2.

I have seen many a problem with IE6 and W98.

I took my W98 box and formatted the hard drive.
After re-installing Windows, I stopped updates at IE5.5SP2.

The system is running MUCH better than it has in months.

To check things out, I set up a similar system and installed IE6.
The PC slowed down and was less stable than the one with IE 5.5.

Now, if you have a Nvidia GeForce or ATI Radeon series video card, IE 6 MAY not be a problem.

I no longer install IE 6 on W98 boxes.
