I have a LAN(NT 4) and a Cisco VPN. The LAN is using DHCP 192.168.1.x and the VPN has a ip pool of 192.168.10.x. The LAN has a DNS, WINS, and DHCP server.
The 98se clients are configured with two hardware profiles. One for LAN access which has the modem disabled. The other one for dial-up access which has the network card disabled.
When Win98se clients are connected to the LAN and then shutdown to go home everything is fine. When they dial up to connect to the VPN they are able to tunnel successfully, that is they are given a valid IP address. When the network log-in screen is brought up they enter their username and password, which is validated off the PDC. It comes back with a "cannot find server" error. If you exit out of the VPN and do a release all and try connecting again you are able to successfully authenticate.
Secondly when the same user comes into the office the next morning and tries to log on to the LAN they get the "cannot find server" error. If you hit OK and get into windows and do a winipcfg it shows that the client has renewed its lease. If you then log off and log back on it authenticates.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as it is a royal pain to have to renew/releaase everytime thecomputer goes to/from the LAN or VPN.

Actually, you could also program a WINIPCFG /RELEASE ALL to run at shutdown with a shutdown app (I think Karn Kentworthy of Windows Magazine write one of these, but you should be able to find a FREE "Run at logoff" program and do this without shortening the leases and adding to the load of your DHCP server.
Especially since, once you go to 2K for DHCP, it also does DDNS entries and other tasks that add to the server load measurably.
If you're asking for technical help, please be sure to include all your system info, including operating system, model number, and any other specifics related to the problem. Also please exercise your best judgment when posting in the forums--revealing personal information such as your e-mail address, telephone number, and address is not recommended.
IP address not renewing
