ip addressing

By westonmoore ·
i have 2 servers, 1 has t1 nic (static ip) 62.209.32.130 w/ gateway 63.209.32.129 and a connection sharing static lan address 192.168.0.1 w/ gateway 63.209.32.130. the other server has 1 nic and id like to give it one of my available ip addresses (63.209.32.131) so it can function as secondary DNS server. is there anyway to do this? do i need to setup the new MS ISA proxy?

I cannot see any problems in this scenario as the servers exist on the same segment of the network. Use of hosts or proxy agents will only suffice as a backup.

Good luck

If I understand the scenario, right now you are probably running a cable directly from the T-1 CSU/DSU/router to your first server
and the second NIC in that server goes to your internal network.

To use the second IP address, the second server will have to also be connected to your T-1. So, from the T-1 router, you would run a cable to a hub and then from the hub to server #1 and to server #2.

It is also possible to run a DNS server on the internal network but you probably don't want todo that.

is it possible to do it w/out bringing in new connection? maybe w/ subnet masks?

I can't understand that where u r facing the problem.
this seems very much easy task.
Here u have one extra Real IP 63.209.32.131
ok
just configure the tcp/ip of the new NT server as bellow
IP 63.209.32.131
S/M 255.0.0.0
G/W 63.209.32.129
And install DNS on it.
nothing more u have to configure.
if u want to browse internet from new server then u can do it b'cos it is with real ip.
no need to use connection sharing proxy ip of old one.
but i think in the same way if u want few more real ip to set up on your lan , then u must implement Switch in place of hub.
good luck
