First Things First

You are not reciving a DHCP-configured IP address. And you have stated that you cannot connect to the router via a static IP.

Is the Windows Firewall on if you are using Windows XP? If not, what operating system are you using?

Firefox and IE do not configure the IP stack.

If you plug another known working system into this network port, does it work?

Need more information to be of any assistance in this issue.

start>run cmd
see what config the network has

if using dhcp:
ipconfig /release
clears config ( ip and dns data )
ipconfig /renew
gets ip data from dhcp server.
