ip change procedure

By tahrizii ·
We currently have 8 win2K servers running single domain architecture with WINS ,DHCP,and all standard services inside it. we got 2 DC's and the rest was apps server. Our network team decide to stndardize ip scheme for this site and they want to reconfigure the core switch to the new ip scheme. Can u help me in outlining the procedure need to be done on the AD part during the ip change procedure? Can it be done without any downtime? TQ

nothing has to be done to Active Directory during IP changes. Something has to be done to DNS though as well as DHCP & WINS. You can change your IP scheme [Scope] within DHCP as long as SOA/A/PTR/CName/Alias/MX/ records are updated [Im assuming that the DCs/WINS/DHCP server(s) on the LAN have static and all others get DHCP issued]. 8 servers and 2 DCs ought to replicate pretty fast, but how many client/workstations are there? Lots of queries to DHCP once your active the new scope and options in DHCP might bog down the network if you've got a ton of workstations.
