IP conflict – DHCP vs Fixed IP address

by lynbo . Updated 25 years, 7 months ago

I am a consultant at a large wide area corporation. At my site, there is one local NT 4.0 server. They are now running DHCP. Unfortunately, they decided to do that AFTER they assigned fixed IP addresses. There are a few remnants, and I had a conflict yesterday. I caught it on the one that received the lease from the pool. There are no blocked entries from the pool for the remaining fixed addresses, so every now and then I get another. I’d rather not go around and look at all 150 machines to find the few with a problem, but unfortunately, corporate is less than forthcoming with SMS data, and won’t grant me access to the server. I could call everyone and have them run winipcfg, to find the one IP, but there would still be several floating machines that I would have to check myself. Any ideas?
