I have a very simple problem, and it seems tht there should be an easy software solution for this, but so far I’ve come up empty-handed. So I’m asking you.
I sell and install new computers on TCP/IP networks, and many of my clients aren’t using DHCP. So when I add a PC to the network, it’s a pain to come up with an unused IP address for that institution.
Is there an app that I can plug into a PC that’s already on the network that will tell me what the IP address range is, and which addresses are available? I know that address’ associated with machines that aren’t online could be a problem, but let’s ignore that for now and assume that all are live.
Also, if I’m completely off base and am going about this the wrong way, let me know. There could be an obvious answer right inside of Win NT (or 9x!)!
