IP Printing

By Tejota ·
I have setup IP printing on an NT4.0/BDC/spk6. One of our users running NT4.0 Workstation/spk4 is having trouble printing to a Minolta color printer we have. I can print fine from the server, but from the workstation nothing prints. The event logs on the server (where the printers are installed) states that the IP address of the printer is not responding...but it only states that when I try printing from that one particular workstation. I checked the workstations drivespace and there is plenty. There is also plenty of space on the print server. Rights is not an issue since the user has the same rights as I, and I can print without a problem from my workstation. I appears like it has to do with that particular workstation. Any ideas?

To help give your troubleshooting some direction try the following. Try to PING the printer from the "bad" workstation. If you can PING it, it isn't a protocol or connectivity problem. Try logging onto the "bad" workstation using a different username; can that user print? If so, then it is a profile problem.

To add on to the above, since you have the same rights as the user with the problems, you should log in to his terminal and attempt to print. If you can, the problem is most likely with his permissions.

Sounds like a configuration issue with the workstation.
Try deleting and re installing the printer.
Then log onto the printer locally as Administrator and add the printer by typing in the path(not browsing to it)
This will set the printer for allprofiles .
Once the user logs on the printer will be there and he should be able to print.

I appreciate all the suggestions I'm getting from you guys. I have ruled out rights cause after further troubleshooting, I have found that test print pages work fine from anywhere, but if I print more than one page, it does not print at all. At first I thought it might be an issue with memory or drivespace on the server but it isn't. I tried changing from an LPR port to the manufactures print monitor port and it seems to work fine now. This printer is a Minolta QMS 6100 color printer. Any thoughts as to why this printer might not be able to print pages through an LPR port rather than the QMS port software?
