We have recently run into an issue with our VPN connection: Everytime someone with a Win 9x / ME pc attempts to login via Microsoft NT 4.0 VPN, it authenticates just fine. When they try to access network resources on our file server, they get a mandatory login prompt for IPC$ (which is not changeable) and a blank password. If an incorrect password is entered, they cannot connect to any levels in the file server that their personal accounts and groups allow. I haven't been able to find anything describing a situation such as this, or a potential fix. Any insight or ideas?
Oh, the kicker: I am running ME at home and previously had the same issues with Win 98. Now that I upgraded to ME, my problems went away, but others still have the same IPC$ issues.....

The same thing was happening to me. When you connect via the VPN does the Microsoft Networking Logon Screen come up? If not it's not authenticating you. You need to still logon to the network. VPN is connecting you to the server but it is not givingyou authentication to network resources, that is what the MS Networking Logon screen does. Let me you if this helped.
If you're asking for technical help, please be sure to include all your system info, including operating system, model number, and any other specifics related to the problem. Also please exercise your best judgment when posting in the forums--revealing personal information such as your e-mail address, telephone number, and address is not recommended.
