IPSEC firewall???

By Tech010 ·
I've set up an IPSEC policy between my Windows 2000 server and my laptop. Both endpoints are communicating securly, but is there a way through IPSEC to deny access to the server from anyone but the laptop kind of like a firewall. I don't even want users to be able to access the server in Network Neighborhood. Any help would be appreachiated, I don't want to have to purchase a firewall if I can help it. Thanks.

IPSEC firewall???

There is a way to do this, and IPSec is just the beginning.

In your IPSec rule, if you choose properties so the Edit Rule
Properties comes up.

In the IP Filter list choose All IP Traffic

It is here that you can add and edit policies to block/allow traffic.

It is very indepth, I suggest just browsing around in there with the
Add/edit buttons so you can get a feel for it.

Basically you want 2 rules (they should be mirrored)

First rule is to allow a specific IP (your laptop) tothe destination,
My IP address (servers IP)

The second rule will be All IP's to the destination My IP to be blocked.

I would go thru step by step but it is a very typing intensive project.

If you get lost in there let me know I will see ifI can point you in
the correct direction.

Enjoy
