Trying to install a Belkin USBbusport mobile – PCMCIA card with a 2port USB dongle. The Belkin hardware manual says that it can be installed on a IBM Thinkpad 765L with Windows 98. We have a this thinkpad installed with the latest BIOS Version 2.13 HXET60WW. Released 09.12.99 Microsoft version 4.10.1998 Windows 98 is installed. This is not a Second Edition of Windows 98.When inserting the PCMCIA card windows picks up the new hardware and searches drivers then installes the correct driver as Belkin hardware manual shows -OPTi 82C861 PCI to USB Open Host. Windows lists the new device within Device Manager on System Properties – When viewing Properties on the OPTi82C861 PCI to USB Open Host Controller under the General tab the device status says ‘ This device is not working because Windows Support for Programmable PCI interrupts is not enabled (Code 29)To enable this support, click Enable IRQ Steering’When you click on enable IRQ Steering after the system has restarted viewing the devicestatus displays the same message (Code 29).In device manager under PCI Bus, IRQ ROUTING STATUS shows ‘ IRQ Steering Disabled IRQ Table from BIOS on this machine is known to cause problems’ When checking the box to use IRQ Steering after the restartof the system this status is the same. When viewing System Information under System tools you can see that a Conflict exits on IRQ address 11. IRQ 11 – IRQ Holder for PCI Steering
IRQ 11 – Trident 9685/9680/9682/9385/9382/9385-1 PCI.
The Trident is the Laptops LCD Display. When you try to manaually change the tridents IRQ to a spare IRQ address the message ‘This resource setting cannot be modified’So we cannot enable IRQ steering because of this conflict. But there appear to be issues reading the BIOS tables with this setup.Do you think we will need WINDOWS 98 SE or Windows 2000 to cure this problem or is it possible to resolve the IRQ conflict with the current setup?
