The speed of internet is dependent on (your contract with) the ISP and not dependent om on your home network. And yes, you have a home network, even if it exists only on a modem/router and PC/laptop.

The speed of your home network depends on the hardware, and for WiFi also on the location of the router and laptop. So please tell more about:
      – the speed of your internet connection
      – the WiFi version (the lowest of router and laptop) you have (4, 5 or 6)
      – the Cat of your Ethernet cable (5 or 6)
      – the speed of the Ethernet ports on router, switch and PC/laptop (100 Mbps of 1000 Mbps)

      Then read through https://www.techrepublic.com/forums/discussions/if-i-was-going-to-play-games-professionally-should-i-use-an-ethernet/

Finally, compare the speeds of Ethernet and WiFi as they are with you and tell us the results of your measurements.

Due to its direct connection, cable internet offers consistent speeds and lower latency than wireless Internet. In wireless networks, including Wi-Fi and mobile networks, signal interference and distance from the router can affect performance. For reliable speed, cable is often the better choice.

      Hello,

Cable internet is generally faster and more reliable than wireless because it isn’t affected by walls or distances like Wi-Fi is. If you need stability, especially for gaming or streaming, go with cable. For convenience and mobility, wireless is good. Choose based on your needs!

      Hope this helps!

Hi! Generally, internet using a cable (Ethernet) is faster and more stable than wireless (Wi-Fi) because it has less interference and provides a direct connection. However, Wi-Fi is more convenient for mobility.

Yes, generally speaking, cable internet (wired) tends to be faster and more reliable than wireless internet. Wired connections, such as those using Ethernet cables, offer a direct link to your router or modem, resulting in lower latency and higher speeds. On the other hand, wireless internet relies on radio waves to transmit data, which can be affected by distance, interference, and obstructions, potentially slowing down the connection.

However, wireless technology has improved over the years, and modern Wi-Fi standards (like Wi-Fi 6) can provide fast speeds that are suitable for most home and office tasks. For tasks requiring consistent and high-speed internet, such as gaming or video streaming, a wired connection is typically the better option.
