Is ECC Ram all that?

By emonair ·
I was considering a memory upgrade when I came accross "error correction code" ram chips. Does anyone have any experience with this technology? The site I was looking at sold it for triple the price of regular ram.

Avoid ECC

by burns In reply to Is ECC Ram all that?

ECC is not needed nowadays. ECC is error correction code that checks to see if the data was transitted without error. Due to the improvements in components you'll very rarely see a an error of this type. You'll actually see a performance loss withECC Ram.

ECC is in some form needed on mission critical servers though.

BOttom line, don't pay triple for something you don't need.
