Is free Wi-Fi a bad thing?

By edgemcghee ·
I finished reading an article yesterday about free Wi-Fi being readily available on the London Underground and it got me thinking about how the general public make themselves the target of data theft on a daily basis.

Free internet access is readily available, and it seems the majority of individuals never stop to ask the question, is this internet source reputable?

It's not a difficult process to set up a free Wi-Fi hot spot, and a short trip to the internet will teach you how to extract a users data for anyone foolish enough to log on.

Emails, Passwords, Bank Details.....turns out that's the cost of free Wi-Fi.

Yes and No...

I wouldn't use Free Wi-Fi for banking e-mails etc, but for just plain surfing/research or watching streaming videos etc, I wouldn't care.

Banking, I'd want to make sure that I knew who was running it and make sure it was secure. Anybody can set up a sniffer and snatch packets out of the air.
