Is it possible to exchange HDD parts?

By wompai ·
Ey guys,

I've got a few dead HDDs lying around, so I was wondering wether it would be possible to exchange some parts (PCB, platters) to recreate a new funtional HDD? I have no idea how and I'm not expecting much of it, but if anybody knows anything about this subject, please reply.

Thanks in advance!

PCB's are changable

But they need to come from the same Make, Model and Revision Number HDD.

If you open the case to get tot he palters & Read Write Heads you need a Class 1 Clean Room or a Lamaflow Cabined with .2 Micron Filters to have a HDD that works after the parts swap.

You also need to get the Read Write Heads out without allowing them to come into contact with the Platters as this mangles the Loop of Wire that is the Read Write Head not to mention damaging the platter when they get scrapped across it.

So in answer to your Question changing the PCB's is a easy thing but anything else is beyond the average repair.

Is it possible to exchange HDD parts?

Be smart... try to use a warranty priviledge than modfying the HDD. Why? If you return hdd in manufacturer, they will know the common problem of their product and the next production we assure the better performance on their hands.
