Is it possible to have 128GB DDR5 RAM with the 13900KS with 5200MT/s

My aim is to construct a modest yet efficient AI workstation that includes
Intel Core i9*13900KS processor
ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 Extreme motherboard
Nvidia RTX 4090 graphics card. However, I am struggling to procure compatible 128GB RAM. I have researched extensively on DD5 and filling all four DIMM slots, and what I hear makes me hesitant to proceed. I give up the promised 5600 MT/s, but even 4800 MT/s is not guaranteed…
I hope I do not have to wait for a processor with Quad channel that can meet the LGA 1700’s 192 GB capacity, which may take a while.
Please help me out as any assistance would be highly appreciated.

Doesn’t seem possible yet.

Nod to https://www.techrepublic.com/forums/discussions/this-could-pass-as-a-rant-too-i9-13900ks-to-support-128-gb-really-how/ as well here.
You may have to go get a server sold by Dell or others for this one or ask the motherboard makers what they have.
HOWEVER what I’m reading about hosting your own GPT AI is that you need FOUR RTX 4080 or 4090’s and it’s not about the CPU RAM for performance.
Can you share your source for this build?

Hi,
Yes, I posted that one as well. But for some reason that post has been closed to answers. I couldn’t find why so.
I am planning to install a 4090. Yes it is true that GPU is the main actor for AI training. However, a high number of CPU cores are also preferable. 13900KS is highly recommended for AI work. (for those who can not afford the new scalable Xeons or the ThreadRipper PRO 5995WX )
Ram is also very crucial for training big data sets as well… More the Ram merrier it is.I am not sure what you meant by “Can you share your source for this build?” If you mean how did I came up with the shopping list, well then, I have to say; a lot of research and questioning…

Can’t remember why that was locked (I didn’t do it.)
As to the RAM speed, there’s a lot of history about memory speeds and how it’s not a big impact say from 5600 MT/s, to 4800 MT/s. The BIG impact is usually disk speed.
But again, the AI training systems I’m reading about run on GPUs.
Back to Intel Xeon W and AMD Threadripper Pro. These are preferred because both can supply the needed PCI-Express lanes for multiple video cards (GPUs).
I worry you’ll burn your budget and end up upset over the need for multiple GPUs.
Be sure to ask your choice of AI training software’s support what they suggest for this rig. Right now (repeating myself) it’s usually the noted CPUs and a quad GPU card setup.

I am grateful for your attention to my snafu.
To clarify, I have access to two AI workstations. The first has a single 4090 and the second has a triple 3090 with NVLink. Guess what, the 4090 outperforms the triple 3090. The 4093 is powered by dual Xeon E5-2650s and boasts 512GB RAM, while the triple 3090 is equipped with a Threadripper 5995WX and 256GB RAM.
According to Corsair tech, 13900KS, unofficially supports 192GB RAM! And he says if I use all four DIMM slots then my MT/s will drop down to 4800. I suppose which is okay!(?)
However, I believe it might be wise to wait for DDR5 to be matured a bit. As it seems to still be in its infancy stage at the moment.

It is technically possible to have 128GB of DDR5 RAM with the Intel Core i9-13900KS processor, which supports DDR5 memory technology. However, the maximum memory capacity and memory speed that a system can support also depend on several other factors, including the motherboard, chipset, and BIOS.
The current generation of Intel processors, including the i9-13900KS, supports a maximum of four memory channels, which means that the system can support up to four memory modules. The maximum capacity of each memory module currently available in the market is 32GB, so to achieve 128GB of RAM, you would need to install four 32GB DDR5 memory modules.
In terms of memory speed, the i9-13900KS supports DDR5 memory speeds of up to 4800MT/s, but some DDR5 memory modules can operate at higher speeds, up to 5200MT/s or even higher. However, achieving those higher memory speeds would also depend on the motherboard’s memory controller and BIOS settings.
In summary, while it is technically possible to have 128GB of DDR5 RAM with the i9-13900KS processor and memory speeds of up to 5200MT/s, it would also depend on the memory modules, motherboard, chipset, and BIOS. It’s always recommended to check the specifications and compatibility of all components before making a purchase.-

Well, according to Corsair, 2x (2×32) GB is not very advisable.
“The problem here is that you are taking your chances on it working fine even with XMP disabled for months and then your system simply refusing to boot, you start losing data, etc.”
(Intel had suggested to use 2x (2×32) GB Corsair RAMS)
“Regarding the Intel proposal, that is not how our memory works.” Our memory is only paired to work alongside the other memory in the same box, and I don’t think an Intel employee would know that unless they were a Corsair enthusiast.”
Now however, I am looking at 192GB option. Even though, Intel keep saying 128GB is their official spec, no memory company has created a 128GB kit. Yet, there are several 192GB kits for the 13 Gen Intel K series CPUs that RAM manufacturers are putting out .
And there are motherboard companies that are testing and promoting 192GB configurations. Furthermore, while there are no 128GB RAM kits in the QVL of those motherboards, there are several 192GB kits that are already approved.
So, I am probably heading to that direction. And wait a while for Intel to play out its agenda and see how the 14th Gen would help out.

UPDATE
No! The 14th Gen won’t help. So, there won’t be a 128 GB RAM kit option, but the 192 GB kits are became a much viable option every other day….
Basically, the heart of the matter is centered around the motherboard and BIOS, coupled with the possibility of incorporating ‘volatile’ micro-code updates.
I am sure, tomorrow at one point, I will be able to say “Ahoy!” with more anticipation than hesitation.
