Is it possible to move or copy shares (N

By rsears ·
I should probably know the answer to the question that I am about to ask but I don’t. Is it possible to move or copy shares from one NTFS Windows NT PDC or BDC, in the same domain to another NTFS Windows NT PDC or BDC and retain the permissions on all of the folders and files, effectively transferring the share from one machine to another? Note that I asked if it is possible. If it is, how is it done?

It's possible!
The only way it can be done however, is by using a backup system. Most commercial backup systems allow you to restore files and folders to a different location, other then where the files were originaly backed up from. It will retain all the permissions.

Good luck!

I said I should have known it and now I remember reading about it while studying NT Server Backup Utility. The book said you could do it with the backup program that ships as part of NT.
