Is it worth it?

Hi,

I am 19 years years old. I have a year and a half of hands on eperience with networking, and troubleshooting clients and a server at a company I work for now. I have no certifications and no degree. I am not attending school right now either. I want to get my certifications but I don’t have the money right now, or really even the time to do self training. Another factor is I plan on going to serve a 2 year mission in about 6 months. So here is my question to TechRepublic members. Is it worth it?

I know I needc to get m certifications. But should I try and get them now or wait until I am done serving my 2 year mission? My feeling is to get them now so that I can pick up a job soon after I return. However, my parents brought to m attention about what if my certs are no longer “desirable” or up to date when I return? As well as what an employer might feel if after getting certified he has been absent from all of it for 2 years.

This is, in my mind, a serious choice I have to consider. So I am asking for your experience as an employee or an employer to what you guys think might be the best idea. should I get my certs asap (by the way, certs are, A+, Network+, and MCSE, or wait until atfer my mission? Money is tight and will be even tighter after my mission. Also, I do know a good amount of information to the extent of being able to pass 2 perhaps even 3 of the core exams for the MCSE win2k track. Please give back any feed back you can. Thanks
