Yes. You can install windows NT 4.0 on virtually any hard drive. The only deciding factor that I know of is size. You stated that you are currently running Win98 so, I think the size of the drive is not a concern. Good luck with your install.

As you have found with 98, your HDD is an IDE drive. You can use your BIOS on the PC (accessible on startup, usually with the delete key) to find more about the drive parameters (like size, # of cylinders, sectors, etc etc), but you shouldn't reallyneed this info for an ordinary OS install/upgrade. You can also use FDISK from a dos shell to look at the partitioning on the drive, ie how it is split up (ie c:, d: etc), but be a bit careful here - you can quite easily scrub the disks with the wrong keystrokes. Either way, the size of the disk is easy to find.

Probaly the most important factor in your HDD is the amount of free space, and you can get that in a number of ways - explorer/right click drive/click properties is as good as anything (and it will report the drive size as well). Probably a gig free would be OK. And, of course, one hopes that other things like RAM and CPU are up to scratch before your upgrade.
Good luck.
Bill

You will have to check the computer manuals or open the computer to find out what is the manufacturer of your hard drive.
If you are considering loading NT on the present hard drive then you will want to check to see what file system yo are using,WINNT 4.0 will not read a FAT32 partition, and you will need to format the drive with FAT file system,if using Fdisk to clean drive donot answer (Y) to enable large disk support,it will set fat32 automatically.

Another option to check, boot the computer at start up screen, hit the key to enter the CMOS control panel to BIOS,the configuration listing should have the make and model of your hard drive.
