Is security level of VPN equivalent to WPA3 provided by TP-Link Home route?

    by gavottetreat03 ·

I need help with determining if my current VPN is on par with WPA3 provided by TP LINK AX1800 which is complimentary gift but doesn’t meet my need of two internet connections. Should I
    1. add a WAN switch such as ER-605 to an existing old router which cannot be replaced due to existing VoIP contract but has older WiFi protocol? And use my existing VPN on its outdated WiFi protocol? This allows me to sell AX1800 to partially recover cost of purchasing WAN switch.
    2. More expensive solution which is keep AX1800 and purchase WAN switch. Also is WiFi 6 not somewhat excessive when I already have VPN? And my network devices are less than 10 feet away from router?

VPN protects against eavesdropping between your modem and the site you communicate with.
WPA protects against eavesdropping the communication in your own local WiFi.
That’s totally different, so not equivalent at all.

Does security level of device VPN on WPA2 match WPA3 only?

Does security level of VPN App running on iPhone connected to WiFi-4 802.11n WPA2 match iPhone (no VPN App on it) connected to WiFi-6 WPA3 only?

I have been paying VPN App due to frequent connection to public WiFi and my WiFi 4 @ home but now with gift of WiFi-6 Router which unfortunately isn’t capable of two WAN, I probably need to pay for WAN switch; not to mention to find extra cabinet for more router equipment. If VPN App on device connection to old router WiFi-4 has same security level as WiFi-6, I can sell new router and use it to fund WAN switch, minimise space and more environmentally friendly in keeping old electronic.

My VPN is on device ; does it provide same level of protection as WPA3 against eavesdropping
        1. WiFi 4 802.11n between mobile browser or app and my router
        2. Wiring between router and modem
        3. Information between modem and the site I communicate with?

My use case is banking online.

      My take on WiFi 6.

At home I’m almost fully converted because of speed and range which is important to me.

Kees has noted that VPN and WPA3 are not the same. So that’s my take as well.

my banks didn’t warn my VPN over untrusted WiFi?

        by gavottetreat03 ·

In reply to My take on WiFi 6.

Thanks but if security is unacceptable, my banks hasn’t issue any warning about my using their iOS apps on non-trusted WiFi? my spending on technology is increasingly and there’s should be some help for users under budget strain. I have been coerced into iOS ecosystem due to bank advising Android lower security.
It seems like I am on my own on choosing whether to upgrade my old router while on two year contact for VPN on this forum? Or switch to mobile data just for banking?

Without any offer to write why, no. Different solutions to different problems.
