RE: "folders on the taskbar the way they used to in xp\vista"

This might come as a bit of a shock to you, but XP DID NOT allow you to pin Folders to the task bar.

What would be the point of pinning a Folder to the taskbar, when the taskbar's function is to allow easy access to executable files - not folders.

It DID however, allow you to create SHORTCUTS of Folders then attach them to your Desktop. It also allowed you to Pin individual files to the Start Menu.

Both of these XP capabilities are still available within Windows 7.

However, any files that were attached to the XP taskbar, didn't have JUMP LISTS capability like Windows 7 offers.

XP allowed me to pin shortcuts of the folders

by t1128 In reply to RE: "folders on the taskb ...

In xp and vista i could create a shortcut of the folders i liked and then put them ON the quick launch\ taskbar and all the folders i wanted would show on the taskbar bottom left next to the ie icon, and when i would click on those shortcuts it would open the folder, but in 7 i can only put them into the library folder or "create a new toolbar" and neither of these is what im looking for.
You can put shortcuts to your favorite folders on the taskbar in xp and vista by right clicking the taskbar then selecting toolbars and then checking "quicklaunch", after creating a shortcut to a folder you can drag the shortcut to the taskbar next to the IE icon and it will pin there. this is what i was meaning the "quick launch"

Yep, but you didn't say "quick launch"

A Toolbar to the Windows 7 Taskbar.
This allows you to add the Favorites folder (or any folder).

Right-click an empty area on the taskbar, and then point to Toolbars.

Either select Links or New Toolbar, if new Toolbar, navigate to the favorites folder.

With XP, you could hack the UXTHEME.dll, inturn use any .theme file you could find on the net. Vista, I never really messed with it b/c I liked the interface, along with Win7... So I have not really screwed around with "Tweaking"/hack using free methods...

But if you want to pay a couple bucks, StarDock makes sweet tools that really digs into the OS. I have used alot of their programs, and most of them are really fun & easy to use. http://www.stardock.com/
