I’ve been tasked with finding an all encompassing backup solution for a lab that contains different hardware, and various OS’s running from W95 to WindowsXP. My research into systems promising to be “hardware agnostic” appears to only apply to newer OS’s and either takes advantage of the sysprep routine, or a similar utility. None have claimed support for anything older than W2k.
One scenario for example would be a catastrophic failure of a m/b running on a Pentium chip, running W98SE. Is there any way to backup the image prior and somehow get that image to run on a newer motherboard?
I know Virtualization is a possible solution but with the multitude of systems we have I dont know the feasibility of this.
Your input is greatly appreciated.
