    Is there a way to edit Sharepoint alert email subject line?

    Does anyone know how I can edit the subject line of a Sharepoint 2007 alert email? I have a simple issues list and have alert setup for a few users. For the most part it works great but the subject line by default is populated with the name of the list and the title of the issue it’s associated with. I have been asked if there is a way to include the issue status, i.e. New, In Progress, Closed into the subject line? The problem is people are getting confused when alerts come in, especially when being viewed on smartphones, whether it’s a new issue, an issue being updated, or simply an issue that has been closed. I know there is an alertstemplate xml file but i don’t know if that helps me at all. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
