Is there a way to

By patrick ·
Track how a virus or trojan entered a windows computer. For example did it come in thru e-mail, web, etc. To my knowledge there isn't a way but I figured I ask to see if you guys know anything to the contrary.

Thanks in advance.

NA no way to check this out

Other than identifying the Infection and looking at how it attacks the system.

Of course that only works on a Per Infection basis.

If you are on the copmuter at the point your are infected, your virus scanning software should catch it. And it will tell you what cookie or stored web page it came from.

But if your already infected and it has replicated itself to other areas of the PC then probably no.

Check the users email especially the Inbox on all Accounts that are active. I have found that most of the youngsters use hotmail or yahoo.

Its pretty straight forward to remove account passwords.

Check for software like MS Messenger log files and folders for each User.

It's another story if P2P Sofware is installed as you are only asking for trouble in my opinion.
<br>
Checking the sites visited in the history is normally a good clue.

For all the great replies! I have found also speaking of the p2p software. That the minute that I sit down at a PC and Limewire is installed I know I've got some work cut out for me. Thanks again guys!!
