Is there any future in ERP?

By max ·
Hi

Can peers and gurus share some insight into the future of ERP?

It appears that the big-5 of ERP are resorting to e-enablement.......but is it really working?

Please raffle the thoughts.....

Yes and No

There are many sides to Enterprise Resource Planning software, and as you alude, the definition is growing.

What was once a general ledger is now integrated software to integrate such diverse areas as Financials, HR, Supply Chain, Purchasing, Customer Relationship Management and more.

The big 5 are universally modular in design - pick up the modules you need.

Some modules are more "valuable" than others. CRM is leading edge and in many areas unproven. There are success stories - banksfor example, where CRM has definately increased sales and profitablility. But not every customer who has implemented CRM has seen any value yet.

The pace of internet growth has slowed and so has the growth of PCs. It doesn't mean the E-enabled world is doomed, just delayed. And just maybe thats a good thing, as we figure out things like provacy and security.
