How secure is our security in this high tech-world in our digital age now and toword the future that we are going forward? will we all be in a win-win situations at the end or some winners and some losers or perhaps even heros and vilians? uuh…..do all of us feel lucky and secure?….will there ever be a such 100% plus security in this high tech world of ours? why can all of us have peace of mind and working together for a better safe, secure and clean high tech-world toward the future? are we in the digital age yet? what will it be next? will it be safe?

There is absolutely no such thing as 100% secure anything in the digital age. We are certainly there already and have been for quite sometime. Things are getting progressively better as our understanding of things increases and with better encryption algorithms, etc.
The best security paradigm that we can really hope for is one that places such time constraints on an attempt at cracking, hacking, etc., that it isn’t feasible for anyone to bother attempting.
There will always be winners, losers, heroes, & villains regardless of our collective efforts, so there will never be an entirely safe & secure place as long as there are people that feel there’s something to be gained by proving that security can be circumvented.

The only truely safe system is the one in the locked room that is not plugged in. Not a very useful server, but fairly secure.
The best security is to use your firewalls, virus protection, proxies, etc. Be cautious, download only from known good sites, virus scan everything, keep your scanner up to date, patch your systems, review your logs, etc. Be paranoid, use complex passwords, change them periodically.
Good Luck!

Data security is only as good as the user community wants it to be. As an administrator you can lock down the system so tightly it cannot be used. All user access levels and remote access are compromises. As long as we deploy OS’s (not just Microsoft’s) that are not secure we will ALWAYS have security violations. Some crackers consider themselves heroes for being smart enough to break in to someone else’s system. Some hackers consider themselves heroes because they illustrate code weaknesses. Ae they villians if they teach us something ? As far a a clean , secure and safe high-tech world it just won’t happen. High tech manufacturing produces a different kind of pollution vs traditional mfg. methods.

Security for the enterprise requires evaluation of benchmarks of competing platforms to get one that really can be made secure & to follow the vendor reccommendations to make it secure & to have the technical staff stay on top of evolving info to keep it secure.
In reality there is a turn over of management to people willing to sacrifice security in the name of benefits from add-ons that compromise security & undermine tech staff access to continuing security education, or undermine corporate support for a sensible security policy.
For end users of the internet, the prospects are dim – look at viruses & con games & spam & identity theft & pedophiles ,,, and on the gov front poor pay means our society is saying that teachers & police are not important.
Some users are maturing in asking for better marketplace products but still drowned out by people demanding lowest price no matter what consequences.

There is no security in this crazy world…
Usualy we speak about risk level: acceptable, not acceptable.
When one “thing” interoperate with other “things”, they are vulnerable by definition. Moreover, if you accept risk level in the current situation, you can`t relax, because “security is not a product, security is a process”.With best regards,
Vlad.-

The only 100% secure system is the one you have not installed yet. It is also the only one that is 100% un-usable.
The only 100% open system is the one you connect to everything, with no regard to security.
The only peace of mind you (or your customer) will get, is that where you balance the security needs with the open/access needs of the end users, and with the blessing of those who control the ($$) and the corporate policy you live within, and accept the risks that you open yourself upto on both sides (Security & Access).
Are we in the digital world? Collectively the answer is YES. Individually some of us are still in the analog world, and sadly, some of us are unplugged altogether.
Whats next? Look for ‘internet tools’ that break free of the “PC” mold and tie in the appliances in your life. Look for Global Positioning device integration into all our ‘moving’ about chores (from tractors to taxis).
No solid answer, friend, just more high hopes!
Enjoy:)

sad to say, there is no security in this world, everything can be bugged, and everything can be traced. This is a disadvantage to our high-technology. As technology becomes more advanced, there will be more loop-holes for hackers and virus creators. So, there will always be good and bad, but the bad will finally lose. As for when, it will not be known. And this is the digital age, and I don’t think we will go into another age so quickly. And to whether it is safe, no one knows the future.

My answer is and will always be no because of one thing, the human factor meaning there will always be some incredibally smart person out there that will break and beat the system. We will never be safe in the computer enviroment in my opinion.

There will never be 100% security, but I believe the industry is moving toward it.
Much of the technology has been developed to provide near 100% security, but it has not yet been fully implemented. In the future, most data and transmissions will be encrypted to enhance security and access may be granted using smard cards or other mechanisms such as retina scans, finger prints, etc.
It will never be completely safe and following common sense security practices will always be important.
The heroes are those that are specialized enough to develop security algorithms for encryption, authentification, hash functions, etc. Also some of the heroes are those that work with others developing security algorithms and methods. These heroes test the security algorithms and methods. When enough security measures are available for implementation, the level of security will depend on what you can afford. The winners will be those who can afford good security and have no serious security violations. The

Note those words in another answer: human factor. That’s what’s keeping us from getting 100% secure. People tend to make mistakes (errare humanum est). Programmers tend to make mistakes just a bit more often than the rest. 🙂 Every computer system is as secure as it is designed AND programmed. With modern public key cryptography almost any system can be designed to be totally secure provided the programming team didn’t leave some flaws in the code and the end user is not a human being. But the programmers are humans and the end users are humans too and so they are points of failure on both development and use stages.
Most of current security flaws are just mere programming errors, and they’ll continue to show up until someone invents a 100% bulletproof programming technique that will not allow programmers to make mistakes.
As of the future – yes, I think the digital era is already here, but it’s way too far from safe and I doubt it will ever be. Even the simplest program can fail ona faulty OS, and mod-
