Is ThinkPad P17 Gen 2 Intel adequate for modeling and rendering?

Hello.
I am an architect and need to buy a new laptop for work. I got lost lately finding the right specs that I would need, that’s why I would love your help please.
I work with different types of software that require different types of specifications: 3D modeling: Rhinoceros, Grasshopper, 3dsMax and Revit.
Render: Vray, Lumion, Photshops
I could work on very small projects, or large ones with a parametric design.

Apparently, the workstations seem to be the best for my purpose. My budget would be around 2500 CAD and I found the following model interesting:ThinkPad P17 Gen 2 Intel (17″) – Mobile Workstation:

I can’t tell if it’s adequate for you since you might demand it be 10 times faster than what you have now.

Which leads us to the next question. What are you using now so we can compare this with that.

I am currently working on a desktop computer in an office and switching to a laptop for working on my own. Comparing desktop and laptop might not be helpful, but I’m currently working with AMD Ryzen 9 3900X 12-Core Processor 3.79 GHz / 32,0 Go RAM / NVIDIA RTX 2060

The laptop GPU is slower by about half.

It depends on which app but for now you’ll see about half the speed of the desktop noted.

That’s adequate to me but some folk may be put off by it being slower than what they are used to.

The components certainly seem up to the task.

However, if you plan to use the laptop mostly at home or where-ever your new work location it, consider adding an external keyboard, a mouse and big (24″or larger) good monitor. You’ll find that much more pleasant to work with.

If money is an problem, you can even consider to buy a 15″ laptop with somewhat less advanced hardware to pay for keyboard, mouse and monitor. But for a business expense I expect the extra cost to be not be a real problem.

Thank you very much for your input.

I was scared of the performance of the RTX A2000 as I have never worked with those kings of GPUs and Lumion software demand a lot in terms of G3DMark (minimum 10,000 or more)…

I will certainly add keyboard, mouse and monitor yes.

Now that I see the note about Lumion I checked out their requirements and found the GTX 1650 listed. So let’s compare the GTX 1650 to your RTX 2060 at

The RTX A2000 is not at userbenchmark yet so I had to use other benchmarks out there so the good news is the A2000 looks to be better than the GTX 1650.
