is this a modem problem

By alester ·
I had to replace my hard drive and since installing it (Maxtor ATA 40 gig + Maxtor Ultra ATA/133 PCI Adaptor Card)my Pc seems to be working fine with the exception of connecting to the internet. I am able to connect and the web page appears but with in less than a min. Everything freezes. Mouse and Keyboard no longer respond and I have to power off the PC. I was having a slow response from my mouse when online before the hard drive died.
I thought it might be an IRQ conflict but can't seem to find anything.
The modem is a Lucent Win Modem 56 V.90 Data + Fax version 5.39.
I tried assigning it to a different com port but the PC won't see it there.

Did you install the modem in accordance with the manual that goes with it? That is you have to install the driver/software first before physically installng your modem. Make sure also that your driver/software is compatible with your OS version. Try unstalling the modem driver/software and install them back in accord with the manual.

Most likely it's the modem.
If the pc is workking fine when you are not connected to the internet, but stops working it's the modem.
I had the same problem with a intel based software modem. Replace the modem , with another one (btw a hardware based modem is better).

It may be a Modem problem. First uninstall Modem software and try re-installing.
Then, if u use Internet Explorer, avoid it, download the new browser from the following link.
Try working with avant browser. Tell me what happened?
