Is this a Print Server?

By trustfundbaby ·
I'm a bit new to all this ... I have a Domain with one Domain Controller and 10 Xp computers. To install a network printer, I install the printer as a local printer by creating a new port (with the Ip address of the network printer).

When I go to install the printer on other computers or for other users, the printer shows up in Active directory. I can also manage print jobs centrally from the Domain Controller (I can just pull up the print queue and delete jobs as need be).

So do I now have a print server running on my domain controller?

Yes. Your domain controller is now doing dual duty now as a print server...assuming that is the computer to which you refer when you say 'install it as a local printer'.
