Is this a security concern

Hi there:

I am running on windows 2000 and have MS Office installed, with Outpost firewall running on the background. I can’t seem to launch my excel or word software successfully, as soon as it is launched, the screen flashes and it disappeared, is this the work of a virus that shuts down excel or word application? Any idea toward this is highly appreciated.
