Is this build cursed?
A first time builder brought me a PC to look over in April. Specs are as follows: Micro ATX Cooler Master case, Asus TUF B450M-Pro mobo, Ryzen 5 1600, 16GB T-Force DDR4 3200 (2×8), Nvidia Quadro M4000 GPU, Zumaxpower 550W PSU (I think, it could have been another one), PNY 240GB 2.5″ SSD, 1TB HDD. Cabling was a mess, but I fixed that and double checked compatibilities and didn’t find any obvious issues. I plugged in a Win10 install stick and flipped the switch.
I think that first time, the fans started spinning and that was it.
(details removed for length)
I swapped all the parts one at a time to no effect. Then I swapped the mobo and processor at the same time in case the fault was moving back and forth. This actually worked, briefly. The drive I wanted to install windows on wasn’t listed, so I checked the cables and tried again. Only the fans ran. That Mobo/Processor combo needs a BIOS update to run, according to one post deep in a forum.
The third build consists of an MSI B550M-PRO, a Ryzen 9 3900X, 32GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4 2777, MSI GeForce GT710, Corsair CX550M PSU, Intel 256GB M.2 SSD, and 1TB HDD. I had started with a Ryzen 7 2700X, but discovered that a BIOS update would be needed for this combo as well. The third gen Ryzen is supposed to work with the bios that come on the board. I get no response whatsoever. I’ll clarify steps as needed in the discussion.
I must have missed some important detail through this whole thing. What is it?
