I feel a bit foolish. Just purchased a brand new Dell Latitude laptop for the boss and it came with Windows Vista HOME.
I remember when I customized it that they offered Windows 7, but I didn’t want that. I checked again today and it only offers Windows 7, no Vista Business.
Today, after the laptop yet again failed to reconnect to the mapped network drive I did some quick research. Lo and behold, Vista HOME does NOT allow you to connect the PC to a domain!! You need Vista BUSINESS to do that.
Reconnecting is easy enough, you just have to click the X’d drive and login, but that will surely annoy my boss.
So before I tell him he has to spend $95 to upgrade to Vista Business, I want to know if it’s worth it. Or should I just tell him to get used to logging in to the network everyday? (OR – is it possible to write a script to auto log him in to domain when he logs on to his computer?)
Also, on Amazon, I noted several of the items stated [OLD VERSION] with no clear explanation of what that was. Am I to assume that means a basic Vista version prior to any and all Service Packs?
Thanks everyone for your input! Hope you all had a nice holiday weekend. Tink
