ISA Server on Win 2K Server

By ndhiman ·
I use ISA 2000 on a Win 2k Server. All my client Machines IE 5.5 is set to use my ISA Server Port 80 in their IE Connection properties. Most of the sites work fine BUT some sites I can't access that way. One good example is www.pcconnection.com and www.bestbuy.com. I have to change the IE setting to automatically detect Proxy server and I am able to go to these sites. Can anyone explain WHY ? By doing this, they are not able to access some of the secure sites and can not also download anything.I would recommend to have their IE always setup to use my ISA Server manually.
Help !!!!

ISA Server on Win 2K Server

by curlergirl In reply to ISA Server on Win 2K Serv ...

By default, ISA Server is configured to communicate with the internal network on port 8080, not port 80. This is on purpose so that ISA will not conflict with other services that use port 80. So, why any of your workstations can access the Internet without being set to automatically detect is a mystery to me. You should change the workstation setting to look for the proxy server on port 8080 and also be sure that they are set to use the same port for all protocols and to bypass the proxy server for internal addresses. This should solve any and all problems with getting to the Internet generally. Then, in addition, because ISA is a firewall, you may have to open certain ports for secure web sites, particularly port 443 if any of these sites use SSL. Hope this helps!

Adding to the above answer, ISA2000 also has a 'Firewall Client'. Install firewall clients on all your workstations, and check for its snap-in in Control Panel. You can now remove all the settings in your clients' Internet explorer appearing in "LANsettings"
This works fine and gives better control if u use Access Polocies of ISA.
Cheers.

I forgot to mention that I have Firewall client Installed and I am having trouble accesing sites when Firewall Client is enabled. If I disable it and let it autodetect, it works fine. Hope this helps.
