ISP

By tmorgan ·
My company has asked me to put together a proposal for a wireless ISP. Being new to the ISP arenea I was wondering if there was any information that would help me do this. Step by Step info would be nice but I think that is to much to ask for.

The above link is to PSINet's wireless website. They have a good datasheet and provide free tutorials and tech seminars, as well.

Okay, here you go.
There is a ton of information out there. My guess is you will already know this by the time you read this but here goes.

You want to get towers made by Aironet. They allow the transmitters (at each user's PC) to be received. Aironet makes the cards, transmitters and everything.

You then need a real Internet connection physically where your ISP is going to be. The tower will physically go on top of this building and some sort of DS3 or T1 will connect you to the rest ofthe Internet.

Do you follow me? You will need UNIX or so to host all the users and the connection to the Net.

That should be enough to answer your question.

if you want to build and ISP operation by airwaves you must first check your lawyer.
In any countries airwaves are regualted by the government or an independant agency.

in the US check with the FCC and see which frequency you can use and how to apply to have the right to do it.

When you know the frequency you can use, check the manufacturers otherwise you waste your time...

I was deeply involved in the first ISP by airwave operation in the UK. It took 7 years to have the licence and 1year to build the network (www.tele2.co.uk)...
