Not sure if this is the correct forum for this problem.
I have been having an ongoing problem losing my connection to my ISP. I have used the same ISP for over a year and a half and this just started happening and is getting progressively worse. This does not seem to be a regular dropped connection. When I click on the logon icon after it has been dropped you can see a very faint dialog box that opens for as long as the click does. Needless to say I can?t tell you what is trying to open up. When I lose the connection I can still use my computer but I cannot reconnect to the internet without restarting my computer.
I am running WinXP on a Dell Lattitude D600 laptop, Sea Monkey browser and the modem is a Conexant D480 MDC V.92 Modem. Connected at 24kbs (no snickering please) I run AGV anti virus and my firewall is active. I use a dedicated phone line without call waiting or caller ID. (does the same thing with either line)
This problem is happening much more frequently to the point it is becoming a real pain. There is no pattern for the disconnect. It can happen after being connected for as short as ten seconds or up to as long as thirty minutes but now I can count on it happening one hundred percent of the time I am logged on.
I have done a search of MSBBS and tried some of the fixes suggested to other members that had similar but not quite the same problem. (i.e. add S10=100 in the advanced tab of the modem properties in the device manager.) No change. I have checked all my shut down settings and set all to the maximum times. Inactivity is not the reason. I feel pretty certain that the ISP is not the problem since if it was on their end and it is happening to other users I probably would have heard something from them. Their own web page suggested simple fixes if the connection is lost. These include new phone line connection (did that too). When I lose a connection, a send error report box opens. This is the error report.

I hope someone can help me with this before I go out and buy a new modem needlessly when all I needed to do was change a setting somewhere.
