I recently had my laptop stolen from my apartment (>$1400). I’m kind of a noob. I know that the local ISP can see the MAC addresses of the WLAN routers it provides service to. My question is whether the ISP can also see the MAC addresses (on the wireless cards) of the computers connected to those routers. ie how far down the chain can the ISP see (whether or not they would disclose this info). I set mac filters on the router at my parents house and so I know what the mac address on the internal card on the laptop is. I’m wondering whether I should bother contacting COX Comm. and giving them the MAC address (since everyone else, including dell and the police, are being pretty useless). I’m a senior law student and all my notes from school are on the computer.
