IT in healthcare

By Tlogtenb ·
I am currently a few months into my career in IT. Although still doing simple help-desk support, I have the goal to remain in the healthcare area. What would be the best manner in which to tailor my skills to benifit me the most in this sector of business?

Thanks for all of your help.

Well, for starters.....

figure out what software packages or systems are the most popular for healthcare providers, insurers, or related parties.... become a specialist in that area.

Look into what the relevant privacy and security measures are regarding patient data....become an expert at both the legal requirements as well as the technical controls which serve to protect that data.

Find out what databases are used most commonly by the major healthcare apps (probably Oracle)...become an expert at that.
