Andrea,
The first thing I would do is pick where you would prefer to live and work. The US is a vast and varied land, offering many things to suit anyone's taste. Once you have nailed down a state and city, establish a good relationship with a reputable Immigration Lawyer in that city or state. (I know that many people prefer to tackle Immigration related issues on their own, but I strongly believe that you will sleep better at night knowing that you have an experienced “guide” looking after your affairs right off the bat.) Once you get the ball rolling with your lawyer, I would come to the US and spend some time here, exploring the employment opportunities open to you. I believe that you can spend a fair amount of time in the US on an ordinary “vacation visa.” Meet with your lawyer while you are here. Explore your available options. If you have an existing relationship with a company here in the US, they can often help you get the correct visas through sponsorship. One thin

What about interviewing with a company such as Romac that is international? Maybe they would hire you locally originally, then transfer you and handle the VISA for you.

Romac's website is www.romac.com. I've worked with them in the past and they were fair, at least at the office I worked through.

As the first guy mentioned you definitely want to try to narrow down your options in regards to location and all that inside the US. Once you have a good idea I would start checking with job sites like monster.com, hotjobs.com, etc. If nothing else it will give you a basic idea of how in demand people are in that area compared to others. The other guy had a great idea as well. Right now companies across the globe are following a trend of both merging and centralizing. Check around about information on large international companies based out of where you would like to be in the US. Then try to find out if they have offices in Italy where you are now. Many companies like that constantly pull employees that work at branch offices back to the US to work at the corporate sites. Unfortunately I don't really have any great ideas on a specific area to look to find that information besides doing random Internet searches on the city you are interested in. Good luck in your search.
